CD DVD Disc Storage System - External Disc Storage Of 100 Discs

By

Are you among those who carefully store their CDs, or you just throw them around, until they become unreadable? The company Imation has came out with a solution suitable for both types of people. It's automatic device for storing discs. The mission of this external disc storage of 100 discs called Stakka is simple. For something over $100 you'll get a box that can serve as a secretary that takes care of all of your CD or DVD discs in a second.

Setup of this machine is pretty simple and takes just a few minutes. After you install the software and drives that come with it in the box, you'll just connect to USB port and the CD DVD disc storage system will get identified immediately. Although, you would expect that the operating system will detect an intelligent optical drive with 100 disc storage device, it rather says that a device of class HID was found that means something like a virtual keyboard communicating in both directions. No optical drive and no way to access the drive.

When you insert a disc in the box, a window pops up on your PC and asks what kind of disc it is. As you insert more discs you'll see their names, pictures, and short description that were manually typed in. When you want to take out some discs, their are recognized properly and the software knows which discs are still missing, although doesn't know the exact time when the disc left the storage system.

It's serving like a fetcher who listens your commands like bring the this movie, store that one, find me the Windows XP installation CD, etc. Included software also catalogs files, songs names and descriptions of the discs to allow a prompt retrieval. This CD DVD external disc storage system just a great way to keep your discs away from dust, UV rays and prevent scratching. Where can be such device be useful? Actually anywhere where there are users with a lot of CD or DVD discs and that want them to be safe or just like the idea of an easy disc look-up.

Inside, you can find three stepper motors, a pair of optical sensors and simple electronics communicating with a USB port. So what, do you like it? I know that the price is a bit too high but if you really got a lot of CD that you'd like to have an easy access to, then this might be a good choice for you. It certainly is a great disc changer and I would be that too if I needed something like this. But I rather store everything on hard drives and don't collect any CDs or DVDs at all. The only ones I have are probably just my operating system Windows XP and the Microsoft Office package. Good luck and take care!
