How To Get iTouch Working On iTunes

By

It's very sad that there's a lot of people that just cant connect to iTunes store with iPod Touch no matter how hard they try.

A lot of people are complaining that the instructions on the Apple's support page far from perfection and thus people are left to search solutions on the internet like on forums and websites with discussions about iPod touch and iTunes. Unfortunately from all the feedbacks I can see it looks like it's more Plug & Pray then Plug & Play. A lot of people say that after they plug in their brand new Touch to computer running Windows XP, they cannot get the Touch to show up in iTunes.

iTunes - how to add an iTouch

To fight any problems you might come across when trying to get thins working, you have to first check the following:

  1. Do you have the most recent version of iTunes?
  2. Have you tried the 5Rs (restart, reset, etc.)?
  3. Is the version of your Windows supposed to be adequate for the Touch? It will not work on Windows XP Tablet PC Edition, Windows XP Professional x64 Edition, and 64-bit editions of Windows Vista. To check, go under control panel>>system. and in that window it will tell you if you have 64 bit of XP or Vista.
  4. Have you tried the UBS ports in the back rather than in the front?
  5. Try unplug all of the other UBS devices.

If the computer registers the Touch when you plug it in and even iTunes loads, but the Touch itself never shows up in iTunes than there's a big possibility that there's a software on your computer that simply blocks the communication between your computer and the iPod Touch.

In this case a lot of people experience the following:

They plug in their Touch and the PC beeps to acknowledge that something has been plugged in. When iTunes opens, there's no iPod Touch showing up on the left hand column. The sync iPod command stays blank and if you go to diagnostics in iTunes, it will give you an error on the iPod connection. Thus, no way to access the Touch.

These are the two most common solutions for most iTunes iPod Touch problems:

  1. Check if you don't have any parental or security program installed and running on your computer. In many cases programs like Net Nanny prevent iTunes from recognizing the Touch.

  2. In case the first option didn't work for you, try to follow these steps:

    a) Uninstall iTunes and Quicktime using the controll pannel --> add/remove hardware, on your windows computer.

    b) Look also for anything else that is Apple and uninstall it as well. There should be an Apple updater or driver that is very critical to uninstall, this is probably the cause of iTunes not recognizing the new iPod Touch.

    c) Make sure you have the very latest update for Windows.

    d) Once you are sure that you have uninstalled everything that says Apple, iTunes and Quick Time, restart your computer but make sure that your iPod isn't connected to your computer.

    e) Finally download the newest version of iTunes and install it. Once the installation is complete go ahead and connect your iPod Touch and everything should work fine this time.
