Laptop Cooling Heatshift Pad and External Laptop Cooling Fan
By Yoovle
Laptops are in summer exposed to higher temperature burden than the traditional desktops. Their bodies are smaller and a large fan or passive cooler doesn't fit into them. Although they don't produce as much heat in comparison to the desktops, they still experience harder times during summer. Not every laptop is able to cope well with such a high ambient temperature. I'm sure you have noticed it yourselves where in heat, your computer works kind of slower, you can hear the fans spinning a lot louder and at full speed, and it is too hot to put on your knees or to put your wrists on in.
This influence significantly affects your work and I'm here to bring you some simple advice and ideas on how to cool down such a hot computer during the summer time conditions. First of all you should take care of the vents on the laptop and keep it away from the sun. Although it is nice that you can take your laptop outside when you go swimming for example, but its stay in the sun on a blanket is really not really a very good thing to do. Especially, models with black design can heat up very quickly on the sun and the blanket effectively clogs up the suction holes what causes some really hard times for the processor. This also applies if you leave your notebook in your car, where the internal temperature rises really fast. The suction holes are in many cases at the bottom, and it's enough if you just cover it with your foot to clog them up. The dynamics of the cooling controllers is small. They heat up very fast and need a constant supply of fresh air.
Here are two solutions that you can apply to significantly cool down your laptop:
Laptop Cooling Heatshift Pad - Enermax CP001
The aluminum construction of this cooling pad gets rid of the heat very effectively and has a nice fan that blows from the bottom of the laptop. It's diameter is 250 mm and has a two-stage speed control. It's good ergonomics with wide wrist rests makes it a great help in fight against the summer heat. The problem with heat is that it makes processor to activate protective processes following empty cycles and significantly reduces its performance. If you've been using your computer for a longer time, you should start with cleaning the air vents from dust and other dirtiness which got stuck in the ribbing of the cooler. With help of a compressed air tube which you can buy in any shop with PC accessories, you can blow the air vents in both directions and clean it this way. If you are sure that you won't lose the warranty remove the cover and carefully blow on the copper ribbing as well. However, keep in mind that you shouldn't touch the inside laptop components with bare hands, as that could create a static electricity that could damage them. Don't use liquid or brushes either.
Cooling pads have already become quite popular in our market and you will surely find the most appropriate for your laptop without bigger problems. You can find some plastic solutions with a small fan, or large comfortable pads with built-in USB hub, card reader or even speakers. Large fans, which can be found in many pads can significantly reduce the temperature of internal laptop components and the hard drive even by 10 ° C. The area under the keyboard will be cooler as well so your hands will seat less during writing.
External Laptop Cooling Fan - Evercool NB-MA1
It is to be installed on the suction grate of the laptop. Although it doesn't cool down the whole laptop as it is with a large cooling pad mention above, it is still very effective and can easily lower the temperature of the CPU. It's easy to carry and it's effectiveness depends on the type of your laptop. If you hear the laptop fan spin too loud and quickly, try to close all unused programs and browser windows. If you have a lot of flash applications turned on, it can get your CPU to work very hard and a standard cooling mechanism doesn't need to be sufficient.
OK guys that's all I've got to say about laptop cooling heatshift pads or external laptop cooling fans. Although they can be very useful, keep in mind that you can sometimes go without them just by taking regular pauses at work, which is helpful not only for electronics but most importantly for you! Take care!
